Jane Hirshfield in Ten Windows writes that art holds something not quite knowable before its existence. It is the curiousity the search to answer the what if question that drives artists of all genres. The idea for this tiny book was sparked on seeing the large dry poppy seed in my neighbour's garden. The pages are formed from cutting circles into rice paper then playing with calligraphy ink across the pages. It is a delicate thing whose colours echo the earth and pages cascade gently to form a sculptural element over the natural stones on which it balances precariously.
